Game:  Minnesota Twins (54-62) at Detroit Tigers (48-69)

Where: Comerica Park, Detroit

When: 1:10pm on Sunday, August 12th

TV: Fox Sports Detroit, MLBN

Radio: 97.1 The Ticket

Starting Pitchers:

Matthew Boyd (6 -10, 4.33 ERA) will be on the bump for Detroit vs. Kohl Stewart (0-0), who is making his MLB debut today.

Tigers lost their 7th out of the last 8 games yesterday by a score of 4-3 to the Twins. Late inning heroics in the form of a 2-run homer by Niko Goodrum in the bottom of the 9th yesterday fell just short of bringing the team a second victory in a row. Starting pitcher Francisco Liriano gave the Tigers a lackluster performance, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks. Liriano told MLB’s Jason Beck: “One of my problems is getting a little too excited early. Instead of just facing one hitter at a time, one pitch at a time and locating my pitches and let the guys behind me make some plays, I missed my spot a lot. I was trying too hard, I think.” Silent bats don’t produce runs.

Today, new Hall of Famer Jack Morris’s #47 will be retired in a ceremony prior to the start of the game, beginning approximately 12:30 pm. From the Detroit Tigers Twitter: “Due to issues with the shipping of today’s scheduled promotional giveaway, we are unable to distribute the Jack Morris 1984 Replica Road Jersey at today’s game as planned. The first 10,000 fans through the gates at today’s game will be given a voucher to redeem the giveaway item. Additional details on redeeming the jersey can be found on We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.” Right.

Per Detroit News’ Chris McCosky, Nick Castellanos is out of the lineup today because he fouled a ball off his back foot (right foot) last night. Badly bruised and sore.
