Michigan has high expectations coming into this season despite last year’s letdown. Athlon Sports had Michigan ranked No. 5 in their preseason top 25.
The high hopes may be due to a core of talented players returning on both sides of the ball. Chris Evans and Karan Higdon return at running back to lead a potent Michigan rushing attack.
On the defensive side of the ball, Michigan returns key play makers on the defensive line in Chase Winovich and Rashan Gary. Devin Bush comes back as a force at linebacker, and David Long Jr. and Lavert Hill will look to continue to lock things down in the secondary.
And of course, Ole Miss transfer Shea Patterson will look to provide the elusiveness at the quarterback position that Michigan fans haven’t seen in a long time. He will have Donovan Peoples-Jones to throw to, as well as Tarik Black, who will return from his foot injury last year.
