The ace of the Tigers has been far from his normal self so far as the halfway point in the season is officially here. Justin Verlander, who owns a 4.96 ERA in 2017, struggled in his start against the Cleveland Indians allowing 7 earned runs in just 3 1/3 innings of work with ZERO strikeouts. The 2011 AL MVP hasn’t lasted more than 7 innings in a single start this season which is a surprise seeing that a few years ago fans felt he had a shot at a no hitter almost every game he took the mound it seemed.

Verlander definitely isn’t getting any younger at age 34 but is age a direct correlation to Justin’s struggles in 2017? Many things have been to blame, including some as silly as Verlander dating supermodel Kate Upton but you would think that could only help Justin’s cause…

Verlander simply needs to be better for the Tigers whether it be with pitch location or pitch selection because his velocity still seems to be there. Trading the righty would be a tricky thing to do for the Tigers because of the simple fact that most teams aren’t willing to pay anywhere close to $30 million a year for a guy with a mere 5 ERA, who has struggled mightily compared to his expectations because of the name on the back of his jersey. Justin Verlander needs to give the Tigers some innings and work back to being his normal self if the Tigers want to try and claw their way back to the .500 mark this season.
