The Tigers, losers of 3 of their last four games, head to Kansas City in search of some victories. They will look to Matthew Boyd for a quality start in the first game of the short two-game set. Detroit is getting Jacoby Jones back from the disabled list, and he is tabbed to start in centerfield tonight.

Starting Pitchers

DET: Matthew Boyd 8-11 (4.09 ERA, 127 K’s)

KC: Jacob Junis 6-12 (4.70 ERA, 132 K’s)

Preview

The Tigers have been down on their luck lately, and that has resulted in a three-game losing streak that they are looking to end tonight. They were a couple of pitches away from getting at least a split from the White Sox, but they didn’t so they should look to beat up on the Royals. They send arguably their most consistent starter to the mound in hopes that he continues his hot stretch.

The Royals are mired in a rebuild just the same as the Tigers, but they are not going to go without a fight. They have a couple of players that usually hit the Tigers pretty hard in Whit Merrifield and Salvador Perez. Perez leads the Royals with 23 homers, and Merrifield leads the team in batting average at a solid .307. If Boyd can limit the damage from them tonight, the Tigers should come away with a victory.

The Tigers are going to welcome back Jacoby Jones from the disabled list and hope that he can provide the offense with a spark like he did at the beginning of the season. Detroit has a different swagger when Jacoby is in the lineup and wreaking havoc on the base paths. Look for him to do just that tonight if he can get on base.

Victor Martinez has been hitting lately, and the Tigers are hoping that he can continue that throughout the rest of the season. He has been a great mentor to the young Tigers this season. That should continue as some new faces could be making their way to Detroit in the next week.

The Tigers are going to have to play a clean game and not give the Royals extra outs to work with. The Royals are scrappy, and if given extra outs they can make the Tigers pay.
