Game #3 with those pesky Cleveland Indians. Tigers can sweep the series with a win today, after a huge comeback in last night’s game. After being down by 5 runs early in the game (early: first inning grand slam off the bat of Brandon Guyer), Detroit clawed their way back into the game, taking the lead permanently in the 7th inning off the hustle of McCann, Machado and Pete Kozma who all contributed doubles. Starter Francisco Liriano was shaky from the get-go, giving up 7 hits and 5 runs in 4.1 innings. Daniel Stumpf rode out a mess in the 8th, after loading the bases with none out, then allowing 0 runs. The bats are humming a “never say die” happy tune lately – let’s carry that into today’s match!
The Tigers can saunter into first place with a victory today. Starter Ryan Carpenter loaded his suitcase and made the trek up I-75 from Toledo to start his 2nd game with the team this season. His first start was on April 1 against Pittsburgh. Indians hurler Trevor Bauer gave up 5 runs in 4-2/3 innings against the Royals in his last outing.
Jeimer Candelario will not need surgery on his wrist but did land on the Disabled List to recuperate. He has been diagnosed with tendinitis.
Tigers Triple-A prospect Christin Stewart continues his home run rampage with the Mudhens. He crushed two last night and leads the league with 11 bangers.
Roster Moves: Dawel Lugo and Zach Reininger were optioned back to Toledo following the game to make room for Ryan Carpenter and Artie Lewicki.
