Detroit wasted no time in signing their top pick from this year’s draft, as it was announced today that the Detroit Red Wings signed Filip Zadina to a 3-year entry level contract. The 18 year old right-winger was drafted 6th overall.

Zadina will have a great shot at grabbing a main roster spot by the end of training camp and the preseason. Zadina played two seasons with Parbudice HC in the Czech league before joining Halifax last season, where he scored 44 goals and 82 points through 57 games.
If Zadina does not make the NHL roster after the preseason, he will most likely return to his junior club in Halifax, unless he is ruled eligible by the NHL to play in the AHL for the Griffins.
There’s little doubt from fans or the Red Wings organization that he won’t make the roster this upcoming season, but we’ll have to wait and see. Zadina would give a huge boost to a Red Wings offense that struggled in 2017.
