The Detroit Lions signed former Titans QB Matt Cassel to a one year deal. (Contract still disclosed)

Matt Cassel 35 years old, was drafted by the New England Patriots in 2005 backing up Tom Brady for four seasons. After Tom Brady went down in the 2008 season, Cassel took over with an outstanding performance which secured him a starting role for the Kansas City Chiefs at the start of the 2009 season. After throwing 2,116 yards and 27 touchdowns in 2010, he led the Chiefs to a 10-6 record, AFC West crown and a Pro Bowl appearance. He lasted 4 years with the Chiefs, 2 years in Minnesota, 1 year in Dallas followed by 2 years in Tennessee.

Veteran QB Matt Cassel has played 105 games in 13 seasons with 17,449 passing yards, 104 touchdowns and a rating of 78.8.

He brings many years of experience to the locker room which can coach/guide QB Jake Rudock for the future. There is no decision made yet on who’s going to back up franchise QB Matthew Stafford.
