Today the Detroit Red Wings made their first signings of the summer. The orginization signed two very experienced blue liners in the name of Dylan Mcilrath and Brian Lashoff.
Although these are two way, two year contracts don’t be surprised to see these guys on the big club atleast once come next season.
Mcilrath , spent last season with the Floridia panthers and the Redwings. He was a 1st round pick by the rangers in 2010 and has yet to find a main spot in the NHL. The wings got him in the Thomas Vanek trade and he excelled with leadership and physicality in Grand Rapids , which helped lead them to a second Calder Cup in five years. Many people say adding Dylan to the lineup night in and night out is the piece the Griffins needed to win that championship.
Lashoff , who was once a NHL blue liner with the wings is now again signing a two way contract. Lashoff unlike Mcilrath has spent 8 seasons in the Detroit Red Wings organization and looks to spend two more. Lashoff another veteran leader was drafted by the wings out of the CHL from the Barie Colts. Lashoff has played for the wings and Griffins , he has a defensive defenseman type style and isn’t a scorer but does what is needed to be done each night.
Summertime has started and so has the free agent signings. The wings look to add more depth at the blue line , and that is what they will need to compete for a playoffs spot this upcoming season.
